skills needed to become a resilient flooring craftsman
Math & Measuring
Just like with other types of flooring, being able to do math and mesure correctly is a skill that will be helpful to have as a flooring installer. You’ll use this skill when measuring rooms, ordering materials, cutting floors, and ultimately, installing resilient flooring.
Not all rooms in a home are square or rectangular, so being able to use math to determine and measure the shapes you need to get the right square footage will make your job as an installer easier.
physical strength
Physical strength is one thing that will help you when installing resilient flooring, especially when picking up and delivering product to a customer’s home. While resilient flooring is one of the lighter categories of flooring, it’s still ideal to have physical strength in order to get the job done quickly and efficiently.

creativity & craftsmanship
Creativity and craftsmanship are both incredibly important as a resilient flooring installer. Whether you’re getting ready to install floors in an oddly-shaped room or small space or you’re working through several flooring transitions in the home, having a bit of creativity and craftsmanship will help you create high-quality installations.
You’ll also appreciate creativity when having to solve problems as they arise in some projects you’ll use attention-to-detail when preparing for, and installing a room full of resilient flooring.
customer service
As with any type of flooring, having customer service skills will give you the upper-hand on many projects. Being able to be personable and trustworthy with clients will help you secure more projects, as well as high-end installations as you build rapport.
Plus, when issues arise, having customer service skills will help to provide the customer with peace-of-mind as the project continues on, even if there is a problem.

resilient flooring installer
Becoming a resilient flooring installer is a great option because it does not require a college degree and can be learned through hands-on training. When considering a career as a flooring installer, it’s important to note that there are three primary types of resilient flooring: sheet vinyl, luxury vinyl tile (LVT), and luxury vinyl planks (LVP). Each of these types of resilient flooring are unique in their construction, price range, and appearance, and as an installer, you’ll need to know how to handle each one specifically.
Finding your path to becoming a resilient flooring installer starts with learning more about each type of flooring available.
luxury vinyl
Luxury vinyl is typically made in either luxury vinyl tiles or luxury vinyl planks, and often mimics the look of genuine wood floors. The major difference between hardwood and luxury vinyl, is that luxury vinyl is usually water-resistant and is made from many layers of materials, including a top wear layer and an image layer.
Sheet Vinyl
Sheet vinyl is flooring that comes in long sheets that is usually water-resistant and made of PVC. When it comes to installing sheet vinyl, it’s important to have the skills needed to be precise when measuring, cutting, and permanently laying this floor
